5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant device, 17 Oct 2012

This review is from: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 inch Tablet - Grey (ARM Cortex A9 1.4GHz, 16GB, Wi-Fi, BT, Android 4.0) (Personal Computers)
I'll start by saying that I previously acknowledged tablets as being mostly a novelty device but could also see some of the media benefits also.

My birthday is in two days and my fiance surprised me by saying I could have any tablet that I wanted and of course I went into 'research mode' and looked at the Samsung tab 1 and 2, iPad 1, 2 and 3, the Asus tf300 and both transformer tablets. All of them have their positives and negatives, although I was never going to get an iPad is I'm not an apple fan, I'm always inclined towards power under the hood rather than the 'look its shiney' approach.

The galaxy note 10.1 offers the power, the looks and the functionality that anyone could possibly desire. Some review sites say this tablet is cheap looking and feels worse, I implore you to ignore them, its usually apple fans who say this, even I was a tad worried but the moment I held it in my hands I knew I'd made the right choice.

Amazon's listing of this product is wrong at the moment, this is indeed the quad core, 2gb ram and 16gb internal storage. I almost purchased this from another company due to poor listing but i have informed Amazon of their mistake and hopefully they will alter the listing.

One thing I do like on this tablet is the use of the pen, I've downloaded a free app called sketcher off the play market and it's brilliant. I would recommend people to download the Google chrome app straight away as the built in internet app can throw a few hissy fits now and then and chrome seems to work nicely on this tablet.

Now, onto the screen, I cannot believe that some reviewer websites said it wasn't good, are they looking at the back of the tablet, the pre loaded video shows how vibrant it truly is, the viewing angles are very good also, cannot complain at all.

Just for anyone who is curious, the pre loaded Photoshop app only allows editing from what I can tell, you can't start sketching in it, but it's free so have a play with your photos and it's a nifty little app. (someone has informed me that you can in fact create work from the PS app as well)

I would recommend that when you get this brilliant tablet you also order a 32GB micro sd card that is class 10, you've then got a lot of storage space for films, music and pictures you want on the go.

I've only had this tablet for about 4 days now and I haven't been able to make the most out of all the facilities it offers such as the multitasking split screen, and from what I have researched it is the only tablet on the market that truly multi tasks.

On a foot note, no need for a kindle anymore, downloaded the app and works great.

All in this has been a great purchase for me, and I'm very happy I took the plunge, who needs a laptop anymore!

EDIT 15th September - I have now been using this device more and more each day, I set up "Peel Remote" which comes pre-installed o nthe device which enables you to turn on, change channels, volume up down on many many TV's and blu ray players, i linked it up to two LG TV's very easily and also a Sony Blu Ray player. I'm a bit disappointed that it doesnt work on Playsations 3's but it is still a possibility for an update in the future!

I've carried out a few different battery life checks. I charged my Galaxy Note 10.1 up to 100% before i went to sleep at midnight and by morning (8 hours later) it had dropped to only 97%. That very day i used it very sparingly to just check the time and to do a quick browse whilst at work between 9AM and 5PM and the battery only dropped down to about 90%. Yesterday I used it a lot at work, setting up routers, browsing the web, watching some videos on youtube and netflix, the Note started the day on 52% and by the time I had gotten home It was still on 35% even though I'd not been cautious with it.

Pretty much what I'm saying is the battery seems excellent to me, I couldn't be more happy with it.

I've been spending a lot of time trying to fill up my 32GB Micro SD card with digital copies of the blu rays i possess and 99% of them have gone across very easily, my only fripe is that digital copies provided are not 720p or 1080p so im looking into some blu ray ripping software and a converter so I can at least play my films in HD otherwise having such a lovely screen is pointless!

EDIT - I have now put Avengers 1080p onto my tablet now and wow, it looks SO good on this tablet, and the best thing is, i wasn't suprised, i expected it to be good and it looked as great as i anticipated. The audio is the best ive heard on any tablet so far and actually much better than most laptops on the market (excluding the HP laptops with the beats audio)

I have ordered a 3rd party Case since my last edit and it seems to be sufficient for now until the official Samsung case is released, which i would imagine will be very well put together... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 v Apple iPad (3), 20 Oct 2012

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 v Apple iPad (3)

The Samsung range can be very confusing and I nearly missed this product as I was constantly finding information on the Galaxy Tab (2) 10.1 and not the Galaxy Note 10.1 which is a superior product.

The Samsung Galaxy NOTE 10.1 is a fine tablet which is functional. Let's be very clear, I am one of the earliest Apple Mac users. I have all things Apple save the iPad, which nobody can deny looks great and that look has been enhanced by the retina display screen on the iPad 3. The iPad is very intuitive (easy to use) so why did I buy the Galaxy Note 10.1?

I spent considerable time researching tablets as by enlarge I considered them a gimmick. I was looking for a tablet which was functional. By that I mean my Apple notebook pro was too much for using on social occasions and lounging around, while my iPhone too small. Tablets are the perfect size but seemed to have only novelty value. Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 has changed that as it is very functional. I can jot down notes, nothing is faster for writing your thoughts, it's like using pen and paper, converting my awful handwriting into text. I can sketch ideas. If my partner is reading, or watching `telly' or anything cosy, I can use my Note 10.1 to browse or email the usual things but most of all I can write things down and draw. It's more comfortable than working at my desktop. Thus this tablet is not just a large version of a mobile 'phone. It does everything the iPad does with the following pluses
1. S Note - a unique and efficient tool that lets you combine notes or sketches together with web content, images and other digital media
* Handwrite notes (coverts to text) as it comes with a very functional S pen which is pressure sensitive
* Draw by hand, doodle effectively or cut and paste images with the S pen into notes and colour them in too.
2. Photoshop Touch is pre installed
3. Office is pre-installed
4. Expandable memory from 16gb
5. USB Port
6. Front camera is actually better than the iPad 3 which is still using VGA whilst Galaxy Note 10.1 uses a 1.9 mega pixel camera
7. The sound from mobiles phones and tablets is questionable at the best of times, but with Galaxy Note 10.1 the noise comes out in stereo via two front facing speakers not the rear to muffle the sound/volume (on reflection maybe the rear is the best place!)
8. Several apps running and visible on the home screen at the same time, split the screen in for example take notes on one side and browse the net on the other and pop up screens.
9. Edit videos easily on the home screen

There is more to learn with the Galaxy Note 10.1 than with the iPad but there is more to do. There is an excellent 5 star review by L Woolridge in this section dealing with issues such as battery life.

Reviews have not been as favourable to the Galaxy Note 10.1 as they could have been, we are very drawn to Apple because they are beautiful products but I think that the Galaxy is both attractive and functional in the tablet range. The S pen and flexibility gives it the edge over the iPad for me along with the ability to install flash if preferred.

Cons
1. There are less apps for this tablet but that is going increase.
2. You will loss some resolution if you turn the screen to funny angles that you would not lose on the iPad 3 but how often do you look at images/films from a 97.5 flip angle?
3. It reads eBooks well removing any need for the Kindle Fire. At the edges if you really blow up your text there is slight pixilation that you do not get with the iPad 3 but nothing replaces the Kindle which is design for reading only.
4. Seems like you have to have a Google email Account :-(

I am new to the Android technology so it is steeper learning curve but I think this is a practical, functional tablet which offers variety and flexibility without the need to jailbreak the device. I will update the review as I go along. Ps buy at John Lewis and you get a two year gurantee.

5.0 out of 5 stars The standard has been set, 20 Oct 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 inch Tablet - Grey (ARM Cortex A9 1.4GHz, 16GB, Wi-Fi, BT, Android 4.0) (Personal Computers)
For the last 3 years, I have been searching for a solution to lower my paper consumption. After a long wait (and lots of searching), I can finally say the Samsung Galaxy Note has virtually met my (relatively demanding) needs.

The new S-pen is very comfortable to write with. All my notes are organized very nicely in a small 10 inch tablet rather than in massive ring binders and . I can version my thoughts/solutions and all iterations are just a few taps away. Perfect!

The device is very sensitive and recognises my handwriting without issue. Formula mode is good, but it would be nice if it could detect Xi (greek letter), if anyone can get that, please tell me how. There were also some symbols I wasn't able to get for example a double/triple line integral (\oiint and \oiiint in LaTeX). I can live without that though!

This tablet does what the manufacturer claims, it boosts productivity.

I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

Thank you Samsung!
