I had my old iPhone 3G for a couple of years and I used it every day. For non Apple iPhone users please consider that everyone who buys one becomes converted and loves it. I have not met anyone who does not love their iPhone. Brand loyalty only goes so far so please believe that they are genuinely good.
When my 3G started to have signal issues I decided it was time for an upgrade. I chose the white iPhone 4 because even though it is the same machine as the black model it looks newer however everything I write about the white model is the same on the black one.
First things first - it is fast. Really really fast. It is probably 3 times quicker than my 3G at running apps. The call quality is better and the camera is just superb. Press the button and it takes the picture. Immediately, not 2 seconds later like on lots of phones.
The reason to have the iPhone is partly the integrated applications but mostly it is for the App Store. There is an app for everything and most are either free or cost less than a pound. I use my phone for everything. Sat Nav, house hunting, shopping, price comparison, web surfing, games - the lot.
I have used smart phones for 10 years and this is not just the best it is the best by far.

Apart from the battery life, this phone is perfect. Email, internet, apps, iCal, great syncing with mac and PC. Stylish to look at, easy to use. The only downsides are the poor battery life, I charge my iPhone every other day now which is less than ideal. And the bluetooth still needs work as it's very slow. After owning an iPhone I would never go back to a Nokia, Blackberry or any other mobile device.

I cannot get enough on my iPhone 4! I was very very anti apple just because of the price and I couldn't see what the fuss was about. I have now realised that this is because I had not used an iPhone. I received by iPhone 4 16gb last week and I've been addicted ever since - just holding it in your hand immediately shows the amazing design work that's gone into it.
Firstly, just want to say I'm no tech geek so this is simply a review for those like me who just want a good, easy to use phone which is fun! I haven't read all the other reviews on here and I'm sure they talk about all the features so I won't go into too much detail but I just love it. The apps available just blow my mind, there really is something for everyone. It's so easy to use and navigate and fun to do too.
I was previously an avid Blackberry fan as I loved the qwerty keyboard and I was very nervous about getting a touch screen as I've tried other models and just really hated it. Obviously it's a bit harder than a normal phone or blackberry but SERIOUSLY this phone is intelligent, 9/10 it works out exactly what I was trying to type even when I'd written something completely different and it remembers words you use, I'm so impressed. Camera is actually really good for a phone and you can get apps that make it really great. The operating system and user interface are amazing - the phone is super super fast and responds instantly to your every touch. I keep discovering more and more things it does as I use it.
Battery life isn't amazing but I've yet to see a touch screen phone having a good battery life but if you adjust screen brightness and disable app internet use etc. it does increase it. Obviously, you have the iPod function too (mine having 16gb of storage) which is so great when you're on the go and you don't need a separate mp3 player.
Basically a beautifully designed, fun and easy to use touch screen phone which really does blow other phones out of the market (maybe not on functions etc. but just on its superb operating system and ease of use). I chose this model over the new iPhone 4S mainly because of price difference and I had read elsewhere that there isn't much difference at all and considering I wouldn't get much use out of the Siri voice function and am happy with a 5MP camera I didn't see the need. Unfortunately (because of the hole it will burn it my pocket!)that I will never go back now from iPhone...oh dear.
