5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I was looking for, 7 Jun 2012

Let's face it, a few months down the line everybody is going to have an S3 or iphone 5 in their hands. I don't care because everything that I want from my phone is in this one. I prefer android and like Motorola's UI better than Samsung and HTC. I also don't mind trading off such aesthetics as camera quality and siri (or whatever they call it) for a better battery and call quality which should be the first thing you look for in a phone in the first place. It's fast and I still can't seem to find a way to drain the battery completely in a full day of heavy usage.
The only problem I feel like I will have with this phone is not getting as many choices of accessories and service from Motorola in case I needed it. I really hope that with Google acquiring the company we will see phones like the Razr Maxx get the respect that it deserves and see it in a Google/Motorola type store in the near future like the Apple Store or Samsung. It's a shame that it is being overlooked in the UK because it is definitely worthy of a serious look in a pretty competitive market with plenty of different options to choose from.

Purchase the Motorola RAZR MAXX without hesitation if you no longer wish to ration your smartphone use, for fear of depleting the battery. This device does everything you would expect a smartphone to do, and rather well at that.

I have awarded the Motorola RAZR MAXX four stars instead of five, because yes -- it would be nice if it had the most powerful processor, the highest definition camera, and the highest resolution display of all the smartphones on the market -- but it doesn't. However, that is not to say that this device does not perform impressively in each of those areas -- it does.

I'm sure those of you reading this review can easily imagine why it is good to have a long-life battery on a smartphone. But just so that you are clear about how good the battery inside the Motorola RAZR MAXX is, I will state the only time -- in the over three weeks that I have owned it -- where I came close to running out of battery: in one charge I used the Google Maps Navigation app for six hours (three hours each way), did one hour of web browsing, spent a half-hour playing Temple Run, made phone calls and sent texts -- all of this while background apps were running, and while 'use wireless networks' and 'use GPS satellites' were set to yes. When I got home after over eighteen hours without a charge, it still had ten per cent of its battery life remaining.

I find the Motorola RAZR MAXX both visually pleasing and ergonomically designed. If I can state anything of value on this matter, it is that this device looks better in real-life in comparison to the way it looks in photographs. My only word of caution would be that, if you have smaller than average hands, you might have some trouble with the size of the handset.

I would recommend the Motorola RAZR MAXX to anybody who values practicality, and does not require their smartphone to have the very best features on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars After 3 months - better than I could hope for, 21 Jun 2012

I've had this phone for a week (update - 3 months) now and it's everything I hoped for. Battery life IS fantastic, but being realistic, as a heavy corporate user, I haven't been able to get two days from a charge. But charging once a day is a MASSIVE improvement over my old phone (HTC Desire) - I would be at 30% after lunch.

Other benefits.
. Really good reception. I live in a poor reception area, my HTC and my Wife's iphone struggle for signal. The Razr, is a marked improvement.
. This is also true for bluetooth reception.
. I was really shocked at how impressive high end games (GTA 3) are when run on the phone (I now have enough battery life to actually play games).
. 'Smart actions' is a very user friendly way to configure your phone so that it suits your needs (e.g. When connected to my car's bluetooth, the phone automatically kills the wifi and enables GPS).

I had been scared (no longer) to buy this phone due to the reports of cracked screens in the USA (having said that, only on one site). I've decided that battery life means it's worth taking the risk. I'll report back in a couple of months and award 5 stars if all is well.
Like me, if you're in doubt, spend
